Meet Christine

Dr. Christine Wickenheiser is a seasoned veterinarian with over two decades of experience practicing in the Duluth/Cloquet area of Minnesota. After completing her undergraduate studies in Biology at Moorhead State University, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota St. Paul Veterinary College. Since beginning her career in 2002, Dr. Wickenheiser has been dedicated to providing exceptional care to her animal patients. She initially served as an associate veterinarian at Airport Animal Hospital until 2017, after which she continued her practice at Cloquet Animal Hospital. Dr. Wickenheiser’s expertise encompasses diagnosing and treating a wide range of animal illnesses and injuries, as well as providing preventative care. She has a special interest in nontraditional pets, including llamas, goats, rabbits, and iguanas, making her a sought-after specialist in these areas. Her commitment to the well-being of her patients extends beyond the clinic, as she often contemplates their care long after they have left her office. One of Dr. Wickenheiser’s unique abilities is her acute sense of smell, which allows her to detect certain diseases, such as ketones, uremia, and various bacterial and yeast infections, before diagnostic tests confirm them. This rare skill, along with her Fear Free Handling Certification, ensures that she provides the highest level of care with minimal stress to her patients. Dr. Wickenheiser is particularly passionate about senior pet care, believing that aging should not equate to a decline in quality of life. She works closely with pet owners to enhance the comfort and happiness of their aging pets, helping them navigate their senior years with ease. Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Wickenheiser enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including traveling, hiking, camping, and water sports such as SCUBA diving. She also volunteers her time and expertise to local pet care communities, offering veterinary care and educating shelter volunteers. Dr. Wickenheiser's future aspirations include having a positive influence on the well being of an entire species such as orcas or manatees. Dr. Wickenheiser is deeply committed to fostering strong human-animal bonds, finding immense fulfillment in helping pet owners experience the joys of a healthy, happy relationship with their pets.
